Jeffrey Dinghua Lei is a Chinese-American writer/director based out of Los Angeles. Born in New Orleans and having also lived in San Francisco and New York City, his world-view has been greatly influenced by individuals across all cultures and socio-economic backgrounds. He is driven to tell stories that explore the complexities of interpersonal relationships, including friendship, family dynamics, and personal identity, aiming to illustrate how empathy learned through personal connections can extend to all.
A concert photographer, Jeffrey has worked with musicians such as The XX, The National, The Japanese House & more. He has also worked on short-form content for brands such as Amazon, Nike, TodayTix, and more.
As a writer, his feature screenplays have finaled at the Atlanta and Austin Film Festivals and the Academy Nicholl Fellowship, and have ranked #1 on the Coverfly Red List. Jeffrey has collaborated on films that premiered at Tribeca, Nantucket, and CPH:DOX.2026
He is currently a Circle member for Rideback RISE, the screenwriting fellowship founded by Dan Lin, Chairman of Netflix Studio, a co-owner and operating partner at Aleph Films and developing his debut feature film.
